DESCRIPTION:On 20th October at 1pm Prof. Derek Schuurman will give a semin
 ar entitled ‘AI\, the Biblical Narrative\, and Rival Stories’. Abstrac
 t: Rapid developments in AI have sparked both hopes and fears surrounding 
 AI. Many believe that AI will accelerate progress towards some sort of Uto
 pia. A rival story suggests that advances in technology and AI are inevita
 ble and will ultimately threaten humanity. Each of these visions is inform
 ed by a particular worldview story. This talk will explore a vision for AI
  informed by the Biblical story and how Christian philosophical insights m
 ight help us forge more responsible technology. Despite being largely writ
 ten during the iron age\, the Biblical narrative remains relevant with imp
 lications for the age of AI. A light sandwich lunch will be provided from 
 12:30pm in the Shasha Suite\, Woolf Building\, Westminster College\, Madin
 gley Road\, Cambridge. Please be seated by 12:50pm so that the seminar can
  start promptly.
