DESCRIPTION:Co-presented by Gordon Davies (volunteer\, Cambridge Museum of
  Technology) and Kieran Gleave (PhD student\, Department of Archaeology\, 
 University of Cambridge). This year's film night will focus on the lifecyc
 le of dams and hydro-power (from construction and operation to decommissio
 n and dereliction)\, presented cinematically\, through the films of Jean-L
 uc Godard and Andrey Tarkovsky (both of whom had personal as well as cinem
 atic connections to dam construction and hydro-power). Revisit Grande Dixe
 nce dam\, Switzerland\, where Godard made his first film ("Operation Concr
 ete") while working there on the dam's construction. Revisit "The Zone" (T
 allinn\, Estonia) with Andrey Tarkovsky's "Stalker"\, through a research v
 ideo undertaken in 2025 that explored dereliction\, demolition and reconst
 ruction of the industrial architecture featured in the film.
