LOCATION:Cambridge University: Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies
DESCRIPTION:This event is a book talk on Dr Jay Song's new publication Kor
ean Migration to Australia: A Human Security Perspective (https://link.spr
inger.com/book/10.1007/978-981-92-1150-0) Abstract: This book is the first
of its kind to historically and systematically analyse Korean migration t
o Australia since 1876. It offers a comprehensive overview of the past 150
years’ transnational migration from the Joseon dynasty and today’s So
uth Korea to the then British colony and modern-day Australia. It does so
by categorically analysing politico-economic human security factors of you
th migration. Each chapter begins with an individual story of youth migrat
ion. They include the first naturalised Korean British subject in 1894\, t
he first Korean international student in Melbourne\, a former mascot boy f
or the Australian army\, and holiday makers in rural Australia. Author: Ja
