SUMMARY:Economics\, ethics\, and the role of the state in climate action
LOCATION:London School of Economics: In-person and online public event (Ol

DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 19 May 2026 6.30pm - 8pmSpeakerLord SternChairSusana M
ouratoClimate change and biodiversity loss are among the defining challeng
es of our time — but they also open the door to extraordinary possibilit
 y. The investments\, innovation\, and structural change required for clima
te action can unlock\, particularly when combined with AI\, far more dynam
ic and resilient paths of growth and development than anything the past ha
s offered. But to seize these opportunities\, we need economic analysis of
the dynamics of change that shows how to turn ambition into action\, and e
thical frameworks that recognise our different roles and responsibilities
in shaping a sustainable future. We also need a fresh understanding of the
role of the state — one that matches the scale and urgency of the trans
ition ahead.Join us as we explore how bold economic thinking\, collaborati
ve leadership\, seriousness on ethics\, and evidence‑based policy can tu
rn risk into opportunity and help shape a thriving\, sustainable global ec
onomy.Meet our speaker and chairNicholas Stern is IG Patel Chair of Econom
ics and Government and the inaugural Chair of the Global School of Sustain
ability at LSE. His book The Growth Story of the 21st Century: The Economi
cs and Opportunity of Climate Action is published by LSE Press.Susana Mour
