SUMMARY:State of the sovereign transition 2026: from national targets to s
 ector signals
LOCATION:London School of Economics: In-person and online public event (Ho
 ng Kong Theatre\, Clement House)
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 3 November 2026 6.30pm - 8pmSpeakersJana HarveyMaya He
nnerkesSetenay HizliokMarjan DivjakChairProfessor Carmen NuzzoIn the week
before COP31\, the annual platform for negotiating and advancing global ac
tion on climate change\, this event will reflect on the state of national
transition planning in 2026. Meeting national climate targets increasingly
depends on mobilising private capital and translating these ambitions int
o commitments and policies that the private sector\, including investors\,
can act on. Building on their economy-wide targets and climate laws\, man
y countries have initiated sectoral transition planning to guide corporate
decarbonisation and attract transition finance. This is a key finding of
the TPI Centre’s State of the Sovereign Transition 2026 report. In this e
vent\, the TPI Centre will highlight common gaps and emerging best practic
es in climate policymaking by drawing on the latest data from the ASCOR (A
ssessing Sovereign Climate-related Opportunities and Risks) tool. Panellis
ts representing investor and government perspectives will share insights o
n transition planning at the sectoral level and discuss the novel financia
l instruments that sovereigns are leveraging to raise transition finance.M
