Temptation of Influence

Architectural Association School of Architecture

November 18

AA Lecture Hall, 36 Bedford Square

Temptation of Influence (44 min) is a filmic essay and a collage tracing how architectural ideas are passed down, reinterpreted and - inevitably - misread across generations. Centred on Irish architect Shane de Blacam (de Blacam and Meagher Architects), the starting point for this story is the quiet microcosm of his Dublin study, where plates from Palladio’s Four Books frame sketches by Louis Kahn. From this room, the film unfolds across Ireland, the Veneto and the American East Coast (New Haven, Philadelphia, New Hampshire), weaving landscapes, buildings and conversations into a meditation on memory, lineage and creative inheritance. Contributors include Kenneth Frampton, Níall McLaughlin, Sheila O’Donnell, Mary Laheen, Peter Carroll and William Whitaker, among others.

The film premiered at the Royal Academy of Arts (UK) and at Architecture at the Edge Festival (Ireland) in 2025 and was selected for the 37th Galway Film Fleadh.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Marko Milovanovic, who will be joined in conversation by Ernest Fasanya, Director at Hopkins Architects.
