In this interactive workshop we will explore how science fiction and storytelling can help us to look ahead into the future(s) of society with greater nuance and accuracy. We will use a selection of narrative tools to plot how different social, technological, economic, environmental, and political-legal changes might shape our digital future(s). You will take away new skills in prospection and anticipation, as well as in storytelling and scenario writing. You will be guided through a creative writing exercise, producing your own imaginative story-stem or scenario, and deepening your expertise in futures thinking through narrative.
Genevieve Liveley is a Professor of Classics at the University of Bristol UK. She has particular research interests in stories and their impact on futures thinking – especially in the context of emerging technologies, AI, and cyber security.
