Homerton College

Since its publication in 1926, A.A. Milne and E.H. Shepard's timeless classic has enchanted generation of readers with its memorable characters, gentle wisdom, and enduring charm. One hundred years on, we invite scholars, readers, and enthusiasts alike to return to the Hundred Acres Wood and reflect on the lasting appeal of Pooh and his friends. The day will begin with an academic "sym-pooh-sium" from 9:00 am, featuring a plenary lecture by Professor Peter Hunt, parallel sessions exploring new approaches to children's literature, an illustration workshop, and more. From 3:00 pm, we welcome the wider Homerton community for a celebratory afternoon of Pooh-inspired delights, including a themed "smackerel" of afternoon tea and a keynote lecture from Kathryn Aalto, author of The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh. Throughout the day, guests will have the opportunity to explore a special exhibition drawn from the College Library's renowned children's literature collections, contribute a poem or song to our "Hums of Homerton", and discover points of natural interest around the College's beautiful gardens - our very own enchanted place. Whether you are a lifelong admirer of Pooh Bear or simply curious to revisit the Hundred Acre Wood, we hope you will join us for this unique celebration of literary treasure.
