On 20th October at 1pm Prof. Derek Schuurman will give a seminar entitled ‘AI, the Biblical Narrative, and Rival Stories’. Abstract: Rapid developments in AI have sparked both hopes and fears surrounding AI. Many believe that AI will accelerate progress towards some sort of Utopia. A rival story suggests that advances in technology and AI are inevitable and will ultimately threaten humanity. Each of these visions is informed by a particular worldview story. This talk will explore a vision for AI informed by the Biblical story and how Christian philosophical insights might help us forge more responsible technology. Despite being largely written during the iron age, the Biblical narrative remains relevant with implications for the age of AI. A light sandwich lunch will be provided from 12:30pm in the Shasha Suite, Woolf Building, Westminster College, Madingley Road, Cambridge. Please be seated by 12:50pm so that the seminar can start promptly.
