Abstract

Designing and building human-centred systems requires one to gather, and maintain, an awareness of the latest works across several disciplines. Hamed Haddadi is Professor of Human-Centred Systems at Imperial College London, where he has tried to learn from a broad set of stellar scientists and practitioners, and often (though not enough) from individual subjects (human beings, or animals). In his inaugural lecture Hamed will walk you through this journey and what he has learned as an individual, alongside the mistakes that he should have learnt from. He will take the opportunity to talk about his path from the council estate in Ladbroke Grove to Imperial College’s North Kensington campus a few blocks away. Importantly, these random hops and journey highlights the roles of several generous individuals along the way who guided and helped Hamed selflessly.
