The Francis Crick Institute

The more we collaborate the more we create.

Our platforms and facilities have training available for researchers outside the Crick.

Unlock the secrets hidden in our DNA and discover the extraordinary story of humanity.

We are a biomedical discovery institute researching the biology underlying human health.

The Crick magazine, spring 2026

Director of the Totipotency Research Group

Crick Lectures are delivered by leading internationally-renowned scientists from the Francis Crick Institute and elsewhere and cover the full spectrum of biomedical research. They aim to be relatively accessible to scientists in all biomedical disciplines, whilst also offering something for the specialist.

The talks are open to scientists from other institutes and universities from across London and beyond. You should have a minimum of graduate-level biological knowledge to attend and fully engage with these talks. Find out how to attend here

Kikuë Tachibana is an Austrian-Japanese scientist who was educated in Austria, Japan and the UK. She studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge University and stayed on for her PhD to study DNA replication in the laboratory of Ron Laskey at the MRC Cancer Cell Unit. Kikuë joined the laboratory of Kim Nasmyth at Oxford University to investigate sister chromatid cohesion in mouse oocytes and the maternal age effect. She started her own research program on zygotic reprogramming as a junior group leader in 2011 at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. Kikuë was elected an EMBO member in 2018. She was awarded the Walther Fleming Award of the German Society of Cell Biology and the City of Vienna Prize. Kikue was appointed as a Max Planck Director in 2019 and established the Department of Totipotency at the MPI of Biochemistry, Munich, Germany.
