The FCA's approach to AI and the road to safe and responsible AI deployment The financial services industry is among the fastest adopters of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The Financial Conduct Authority's AI Live Testing was developed to support and encourage that adoption, and now, after one year, is beginning to surface real insights about the challenges and prospects of safe and responsible AI adoption in the sector. Drawing on insights from the FCA's AI Live Testing initiative, as well as its recent publication 'Good and Poor Practice for AI in Financial Services' and the joint FCA-Bank of England AI Survey, the panel will discuss what the Live Testing initiative has unearthed about real-world adoption of AI in financial services, whether and how the industry is adapting to technological change, and what this means for the sector and for wider society. This panel is hosted and convened by the Intellectual Forum at Jesus College, Cambridge, with input from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Advai and industry representatives. About the speakers Dr Henrike Mueller is a Manager in Innovation at the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Michaela Coetsee is AI Ethics and Assurance Lead at Advai. Ray Eitel-Porter is an AI expert and the best-selling author of Governing the Machine – How to navigate the risks of AI and unlock its true potential (Bloomsbury, October 2025). He is Senior Research Associate for Responsible AI at the Intellectual Forum, Jesus College Cambridge, and has led AI research collaborations with Stanford, MIT, The Alan Turing Institute and the Institute for AI Ethics at Oxford University. Ray was Accenture’s global lead for Responsible AI and designed Accenture’s AI compliance program.
