We are at a key moment in the history of mathematics. Artificial intelligence is beginning to tackle research problems once thought impossible to solve or to demand years of human ingenuity. Its rapid progress raises an existential crisis: could this be the end of mathematics as we know it?
In this lecture, Professor Alain Goriely describes recent advances in AI, explains the mathematics behind them, and explores their implications for the future of discovery, understanding, education and the people who devote their lives to it.
