The Royal Society

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2026.

With long waits for treatment and fewer face‑to‑face GP appointments, influencers have stepped into the breach. From doctors promoting untested therapies to celebrities selling solutions, these self-styled experts radiate wellness and guarantee results.

Award-winning broadcaster, medical journalist and author of this year’s Bad Influence, Dr Deborah Cohen joins doctor, author and presenter Professor Kevin Fong OBE to delve into her latest book. Together, they will explore the transformation of a healthcare system driven by online trends, the truth behind Ozempic influencers, AI-powered diagnoses, ‘preventative’ screening and Instagram’s favourite wearable tech.

This event is part of the science book talks strand at Summer Science Exhibition 2026.

This event will be held in Theatre 1 at the Royal Society on Saturday 4 July 2026, 12pm – 12.40pm.
