This is a rare chance to catch Birkbeck and Sydney poets reading together.
Kate Lilley is a widely-published queer poet-scholar and adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Sydney. Her three books of poetry are Versary, Ladylike and, most recently, Tilt, winner of the Victorian Premier’s Award. Recent poems have appeared in Griffith Review, Overland, Australian Poetry Journal, Rabbit and Plumwood Mountain. She is the editor of Best of Australian Poems 2024 (with Shastra Deo), Margaret Cavendish: The Blazing World and Other Writings and Dorothy Hewett: Selected Poems(UWAP). Penn Newell is an award-winning poet and researcher based at Birkbeck. Their poetry has featured in The Poetry Review, 3AM, London Magazine, and SALT.editorial, amongst others. They have been a Lambda Literary Poetry Spotlight, recipient of a Northern Writers Award, and Pushcart Prize nominee. Their flash fiction was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize. Their essays have featured in Social Text (DUP) and Performance Research (Routledge), amongst others.
