June 30
Birkbeck Clore Management Centre
Bringing together analyses from different fields — law, technology, Marxism, and psychoanalysis — Jodi Dean shows the direction the world is heading: neofeudalism. Politics and plunder thrive in capital's drive to accumulate, and the many are trapped in new forms of servitude , coerced into a system of rents, destruction, and hoarding driven by privilege and dependence. How, then, do we get free? Join Prof Jodi Dean, Emer Prof Maria Aristodemou, Dr Camille Barbagallo, Prof James Martel, and Dr Ashok Kumar as they discuss Dean's provocative new book. The event will be chaired by BIH Co-Director Prof Esther Leslie.
Jodi Dean is a political theorist teaching and writing in Geneva, NY. She is the author of numerous books, including The Communist Horizon, Crowds and Party, Comrade: An Essay on Political Belonging, and most recently, Capital's Grave: Neofeudalism and the New Class Struggle, all published by Verso.
The book launch is organised by the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities and supported by Open Society Foundations.
It will be recorded and livestreamed.
This event is free and open to all but registration is required. Please click on the 'book your place' link at the top of the page to secure your place.
